Course Description

Developing and maintaining quality medical records and implementing prudent documentation practices are essential for the mental health clinician in private practice.  Professional Codes of Ethics provide practitioners with a comprehensive set of guidelines outlining professional norms, while the New Jersey licensing regulations and state and federal laws prescribe legal directives around professional conduct for clinicians practicing in New Jersey.  While the purpose of these laws and guidelines are to ensure the safety, well-being, and quality of care provided to clients, none specifically address the unique experience of clinicians in private practice.   In this workshop, the presenter will illuminate the importance of adhering to ethical, legal and best-practice standards in their documentation of  services provided to their clients.  Attendees of this workshop receive an in-depth view of the clinical and financial elements of the medical record; progress notes; records retention and destruction; confidentiality and privacy and the release…
